Iwobi Makes Premier League History Despite Fulham’s Dramatic Defeat To Crystal Palace

Nigeria international Alex Iwobi reached a significant Premier League milestone on Saturday despite Fulham suffering a 3-2 defeat to Crystal Palace at Craven Cottage.

According to reports, Iwobi was named in Fulham’s starting lineup for the encounter, making his 100th Premier League appearance for the London club. The landmark also saw the midfielder enter an exclusive group of players who have registered at least 100 Premier League appearances for three different clubs.

Iwobi had previously reached the century mark during his spells with Arsenal and Everton, making 100 appearances for Arsenal and 123 for Everton. His latest appearance for Fulham has now placed him alongside former Premier League stars Gary Speed, Rory Delap, Gareth Barry and James Milner, who also achieved the feat.

The Nigerian midfielder remained active in Fulham’s attacking play throughout the contest against Palace. He was involved in set-piece duties, including delivering corners, while also making several attacking runs into promising positions in the visitors’ penalty area.

Despite Iwobi’s personal achievement, Fulham were unable to secure a positive result after twice taking the lead during an entertaining encounter.

Joshua King opened the scoring for the hosts in the 11th minute after collecting the ball inside the penalty area, with his effort taking a deflection before beating Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

Palace appeared to have equalised through Tyrick Mitchell, but the goal was disallowed for offside following a VAR review. Mitchell eventually found the net in the 35th minute to restore parity.

Fulham reclaimed the advantage shortly before the break when Cesar Palacios reacted quickest to a rebound and fired the ball into the net in the 42nd minute.

However, Palace continued to push for a result and levelled the match again in the 54th minute, with Mitchell completing his brace.

The visitors completed their comeback in the 77th minute when Ben Chilwell reacted fastest to another rebound inside the Fulham penalty area before calmly finding the bottom-right corner.

Iwobi started alongside fellow Nigerian international Calvin Bassey, but the pair could not prevent Fulham from suffering another defeat as Crystal Palace completed a dramatic comeback at Craven Cottage.
