Iyabo Ojo Reveals How Painful Past Shaped Her Overprotective Nature Towards Daughter

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo has opened up about how her experience as a rape survivor influenced the way she raised and protected her daughter, Priscilla.

Speaking during an interview on the Morayo Show, Ojo explained that her strong protective instincts as a mother were largely driven by her desire to shield her daughter from experiencing similar trauma.

The actress said her painful past made her particularly cautious about Priscilla’s safety during her childhood.

She revealed that she took additional measures to ensure her daughter was properly supervised, especially whenever she was away and unable to personally monitor her.

According to Ojo, Priscilla did not fully understand her mother’s strict approach while growing up. However, as she became older and learned about her mother’s experience, she eventually understood the reasons behind Ojo’s heightened concern for her safety.

The actress also disclosed that she deliberately ensured a woman was available to look after Priscilla whenever she was not at home.

Ojo explained that her decision was rooted in her determination to prevent her daughter from experiencing the trauma she had endured.

She said, “I was protective because I didn’t want what happened to me to happen to her, because I am a rape victim. She didn’t understand, but now she gets it. I made sure a female was around whenever I wasn’t at home.”
