In a statement released on Friday night in Abuja, Mr. Willie Bassey, the Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), disclosed this development. The decision comes in light of an ongoing investigation into the affairs of the Central Bank and the planned financial sector reforms.

According to the statement, Mr. Emefiele has been directed to promptly transfer the responsibilities of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will assume the role of Acting Central Bank Governor until the investigation concludes and the reforms are implemented.
