Jos Electricity Employee Fatally Electrocuted On Duty....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday morning as a worker from the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) met with a fatal accident while conducting repairs in the Abbatoir area of Jos South Local Government Council, Plateau State. The employee, known only as Friday, was electrocuted while carrying out essential repairs in the Abbatoir community, as power was unexpectedly restored to the high-tension pole he was working on.

This devastating occurrence has left the community in deep shock and grief. Residents recall Friday’s commitment to his duties and his swift response to customer calls whenever faults arose in his designated area.

Efforts to reach the JEDC’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Elijah Adakole, for comment have been unsuccessful thus far.

In a separate development, Alhadji Kanja Sesay, the Energy Minister of Sierra Leone, has submitted his resignation. This move comes amid recent disruptions in the country’s electricity supply. While the specific reasons for Sesay’s resignation were not officially disclosed, the Energy Ministry declined to comment in response to AFP’s inquiries.

Following Sesay’s resignation, the presidency announced that the ministry will now be directly overseen by President Julius Maada Bio, with the assistance of two other officials. The timing of Sesay’s resignation coincides with the government’s payment of $18.5 million to Turkish Karpowership and Transco-CLSG group, two power providers to whom Sierra Leone owed a total of $40 million.

Although it’s unclear if Sesay’s resignation is directly linked to these payments, reports indicate that power was restored in Freetown after a two-month period of outages following the announcement of the payments. Karpowership, which has been supplying electricity to Sierra Leone through a floating offshore unit since 2018, reduced its capacity from 65 megawatts to just five due to payment issues.

Following the latest payment announcement, the Turkish group expressed satisfaction that electricity supply has returned to full capacity in Freetown.
