Joseph Okechukwu Makes Explosive Allegation Over Chinese Traders And Igbo Businesses

Veteran Nollywood actor Joseph Okechukwu has reacted to the recent protest by some Igbo traders at the Lagos Trade Fair Complex over the involvement of Chinese nationals in retail trading.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Okechukwu made his position known in a video shared online, where he alleged that the Federal Government had brought Chinese nationals into Nigeria in large numbers with the intention of undermining businesses owned by Igbo people.

The actor further alleged that some Yoruba landowners were offering land to Chinese nationals at no cost as part of what he claimed was an effort to weaken Igbo businesses.

“The Federal Government brought in Chinese people into Nigeria in masses so that they can destroy Igbo businesses,” Okechukwu said.

He added, “Yorubas are even giving their lands free to the Chinese just to destroy Igbo businesses. They don’t know us Igbos. Manufacturing companies will soon start springing up everywhere in the South East.”

Okechukwu’s comments came amid concerns over the participation of Chinese nationals in retail trading at the Lagos Trade Fair Complex, with some Igbo traders protesting what they described as competition from foreign businesses operating within the retail space.

The development has generated discussions about the role of foreign nationals in Nigeria’s retail sector and the potential impact of their activities on locally owned businesses.

While expressing his concerns about the situation, Okechukwu also voiced optimism about the economic future of the South-East, predicting that manufacturing companies would increasingly emerge across the region.

His remarks have added to the ongoing debate surrounding foreign participation in Nigeria’s business environment, particularly the balance between international investment, local enterprise and competition in the retail and manufacturing sectors.
