Judgment Reserved By Supreme Court In Governors’ Case Against EFCCThe Supreme Court has reserved its judgment on a critical legal challenge from 16 state governments questioning the constitutionality of the laws that established the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Initially brought forward by the Kogi State Government through its Attorney General, the suit has garnered support from several other states, including Ondo, Edo, Oyo, Ogun, Nasarawa, Kebbi, Katsina, Sokoto, Jigawa, Enugu, Benue, Anambra, Plateau, Cross-River, and Niger.

Notably, the Attorneys General of Anambra, Adamawa, and Ebonyi have withdrawn from the case, a request granted by the Supreme Court panel. The lawsuit raises important issues regarding the federal authority over anti-corruption enforcement and challenges the legal basis for the EFCC’s establishment under existing laws.

The Supreme Court’s upcoming decision is highly anticipated, as it could have significant implications for the balance of power between federal and state authorities in governance and justice administration.
