Senate President Godswill Akpabio has decided to cancel his planned trip to Dubai for the COP28 Climate Change Summit in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The cancellation comes in response to the public outrage over the presence of 1,411 delegates from Nigeria at the summit, particularly accompanying President Bola Tinubu.
The delegate count stirred dissatisfaction among Nigerians, leading to concerns about the significant number of representatives attending the summit. Minister of Information Mohammed Idris clarified that the government only funded 422 delegates, but the controversy persisted.
Addressing the issue during a one-day retreat on the 2024 budget in Abuja, Akpabio acknowledged the criticisms from the Nigerian public and revealed that these concerns influenced his decision to cancel the trip. He expressed his commitment to focus on the 2024 budget defense sessions with government agencies instead.
Akpabio emphasized his dedication to addressing the priorities of the nation and designated a representative from Cote d’Ivoire to attend the COP28 summit in his place. Source: Bushradiogist
