Alleging that Governor Uzodimma sent police and thugs to brutalize Congress President Comrade Joe Ajaero, the NLC asserted that the governor invaded and attacked Ajaero’s hometown, Azalla Owalla in Emekuku, Owerri, on Saturday, November 4, aiming to continue his alleged mission.

In a statement titled “Hope Uzodimma’s Aggressive Actions Against Nigerian Workers and Trade Union Leaders,” the NLC accused the governor of continuing a dangerous mission to assassinate Comrade Ajaero.

The NLC highlighted the violent assault on November 1, 2023, within the State Secretariat of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Imo State, denouncing the actions of Governor Hope Uzodimma, his associates, and the State Police Commissioner as a dire sign of suppression and aggression.

The statement emphasized the invasion of Azalla Owalla in Emekuku, the community of NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero, as an evident attempt to assassinate him. This action, the NLC suggested, aimed to target Ajaero, presumed to be present and still recovering from prior injuries inflicted by the police and hired thugs.

Citing excessive use of force against dissenting citizens and those critical of the Governor’s policies, particularly regarding workers’ treatment in Imo State, the NLC condemned this action as a threat to democratic principles.

The NLC pointed fingers at the Imo State Commissioner of Police, claiming complicity in unleashing terror in the state and urged the Inspector-General of Police to remove the commissioner promptly.
