On Monday, the group of 27 legislators, reportedly aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and immediate past governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, had officially switched from the PDP to the APC, citing divisions within the PDP as their motivation for the move.

The lawmakers made the announcement during the plenary session, where they highlighted the perceived factionalism within the PDP as the driving force behind their defection.

However, a source revealed to Bushradiogist on Wednesday that Hon. Linda Somari Stewart, representing Okrika in the State Assembly, reconsidered her stance just as the seats of the defectors were about to be declared vacant.

This unexpected reversal signifies Stewart’s shift from Wike’s camp to Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s camp.

Earlier on Wednesday, Bushradiogist had reported that a five-member faction of the State House of Assembly, led by Edison Ehie and loyal to Governor Fubara, passed the 2024 budget proposal submitted by the governor. The budget, approved by the State Executive Council on Monday, exceeds N800 billion and is titled the ‘Budget of Renewed Hope, Consolidation, and Continuity’ for the 2024 fiscal year.

In a symbolic move, the faction held the house plenary session at the Government House, Port Harcourt, amid the ongoing demolition of the assembly complex by Governor Fubara’s administration.

This development occurs against the backdrop of the other faction of lawmakers loyal to Wike, led by Martin Amaewhule, who had initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara. However, the attempted move for impeachment ultimately failed.
