JUST IN: Shettima To Represent Nigeria’s President Tinubu At CHOGM 2024President Bola Tinubu has appointed Vice President Kashim Shettima to lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). This significant international gathering will include participation from King Charles III and leaders from 56 member countries, who will discuss pressing issues facing the Commonwealth. This year’s theme is “One Resilient Common Future: Transforming our Common Wealth,” focusing on how member nations can leverage their strengths to foster resilience and innovation.

The statement noted, “The theme will highlight ways to unlock potential, utilize the ‘Commonwealth Advantage,’ and cultivate a connected, digital Commonwealth.” During the meeting, member countries will also elect the next Commonwealth Secretary-General, who will come from the Africa Region, in line with the revised 2022 memorandum on the Commonwealth Secretariat. Candidates for this role include representatives from Lesotho, Ghana, and The Gambia, with Nigeria poised to play a crucial role as the largest African member.

In addition to building on the progress made at CHOGM 2022, VP Shettima and other leaders will address global economic, environmental, and security challenges, exploring collaborative strategies for resilience, trade, and innovation. The Vice President is expected to leverage the Commonwealth Business Forum to attract investment to Nigeria and engage with global business leaders on solutions to pressing challenges.

Shettima will also participate in the People’s Forum, the largest platform for public engagement on global development issues, and conduct bilateral meetings and executive sessions.
