Speaking at a private luncheon for stakeholders in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Wike stated that he faced intense lobbying to back Obi but ultimately declined, believing that Obi had no chance of winning.

He also noted that some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who aspire for the party’s presidential ticket in 2027, are aligning against him. Wike expressed confidence that his political adversaries would not succeed, stating, ā€œPeter Obi’s group lobbied me extensively, but I knew it wouldn’t work. Rivers State will not support a losing candidate.ā€

Wike remarked on the internal conflicts within the PDP, asserting, ā€œThere’s a faction pushing for the presidency, and they believe they must act now to avoid problems.
