The highest court characterized Atiku’s petition as a light-hearted matter, asserting that it could not be accepted.
According to the Supreme Court, the case was filed after the prescribed time and failed to establish a case of forgery.
Atiku had sought permission from the Supreme Court to present fresh evidence of forgery against Tinubu.
He implored the court to examine the matter due to its constitutional and democratic implications.
The new evidence Atiku wished to submit consisted of Tinubu’s academic records, which were received from Chicago State University (CSU) on October 2.
The former Vice President had conveyed to the court that this fresh evidence was critical to his appeal, maintaining that the court possessed the inherent authority to consider and rule on the application.
Nonetheless, the Supreme Court declared that it lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the new evidence because the time limit specified by the constitution had passed.
