The focus of the raid was on the Western and Safari hostels, located outside the university campus in Malete, Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State. The students, feeling unjustly targeted, vehemently resisted the EFCC’s actions, insisting that only those previously arrested on Wednesday should be taken away.
In response to the students’ resistance, EFCC operatives, accompanied by officers from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the police, resorted to firing shots at the students, resulting in injuries.
Reports from within the university indicate that numerous students sustained injuries from the gunfire and teargas used by the security operatives. These injured students received urgent treatment at nearby medical facilities.
A video footage obtained by SaharaReporters captured the chaotic scene as armed security personnel discharged their weapons toward the students.
Following the raid, the EFCC detained over 20 students, alleging their involvement in cybercrimes, and subsequently transported them to their office in Ilorin.
This incident follows a series of confrontations between the EFCC and the students of Kwara State University, as the anti-graft agency intensifies efforts to clamp down on alleged criminal activities among the student populace.
Bushradiogist had previously reported a similar raid conducted by the EFCC on Wednesday, during which some students were apprehended and items such as cars, laptops, and mobile phones were confiscated.
Despite the release of some students after purported settlements, others remain in custody, facing allegations of more serious offenses.
As tensions rise and allegations of misconduct emerge, the fate of the detained students and the consequences of the confrontations between law enforcement and the university community remain uncertain.
In a separate investigation conducted by Bushradiogist, it has been revealed that three students who were shot during the raid tragically lost their lives. Additionally, several other students sustained gunshot wounds, with some currently battling for their lives due to the severity of their injuries.
