Embedded in the chronicles of time lies a compelling narrative of Archbishop Benson Idahosa. This revered and widely recognized figure once dispatched his gospel protege, Duncan Williams, to the president of Ghana at that time. With fervor and conviction, Idahosa conveyed his message through Williams, demanding that his son be granted airtime on national television to preach. The Ghanaian president’s response, “Who’s Idahosa?” sparked an unforgettable sequence of events.

Upon receiving the president’s dismissive reply, Idahosa uttered a solemn decree: “I, Benson Idahosa, I dethrone you.” Remarkably, within a month, the president met an untimely demise, paving the way for Jerry John Rawlings to assume leadership.

Undeterred by the consequences of his previous demand, Idahosa once again sought airtime for Williams to preach on national television. This time, Jerry, having witnessed the fate of his predecessor, acquiesced obediently, granting Williams the coveted platform. Idahosa’s influence transcended the confines of the church walls, commanding respect and authority wherever he trod.

In his era, criticism of churches fell on deaf ears as secular entities, in awe of his persona, readily yielded to his authority. Governments across Africa, particularly Nigeria, dared not challenge the church, testament to his indomitable influence. Idahosa’s accolades extended beyond the shores of Africa, earning recognition from American Christian bodies and forging alliances with esteemed Western religious leaders—a far cry from the landscape of contemporary times.

A confidant of T. L. Osborne, mentored by Pa S. G. Elton, educated at Gordon Lindsey’s bible college, and an associate of the late Morris Cerullo, Idahosa’s impact reverberated across continents. He imparted his wisdom to renowned evangelists such as Reinhard Bonnke and played a pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of globally recognized figures like Benny Hinn.

His ministry transcended geographical boundaries, as evidenced by his joint endeavors with Benny Hinn in Asia, with Dr. David Yongi Cho, founder of the world’s largest church, facilitating interpretation. Today’s African Pentecostalism owes much to Idahosa’s visionary leadership and mentorship. His legacy lives on, as countless fathers of faith, directly or indirectly influenced by his teachings, continue to propagate his message. Rest in peace, sir.
