Justice A.A Bello of the Kaduna State High Court in Kaduna has handed down a ten-year prison sentence to Idris Musa for his involvement in Automated Teller Machine (ATM) fraud. The specific charge against him states:”Idris Musa, on a date in July 2022, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court in Kaduna, dishonestly induced one Idris Ismail by swapping his Zenith Bank ATM card, falsely claiming to assist him in withdrawing money. This act is in violation of Section 306(a) of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017, and is punishable under Section 307 of the same law.”
Upon hearing the charge, Musa pleaded guilty, leading the prosecution counsel, M.U Gadaka, to request the court to proceed with the conviction. Consequently, Justice Bello sentenced Idris Musa to ten years in prison or a fine of N200,000.00k (Two Hundred Thousand Naira only).
Musa’s criminal activities came to light when he was apprehended for covertly swapping ATM cards of unsuspecting victims, deceiving them into thinking he was assisting with their transactions. His arrest, which occurred on the premises of a bank, revealed that he had 48 ATM cards from various banks in his possession, marking the beginning of his journey to the Correctional Centre.
