In a statement issued on Monday, Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Suleiman Shuaibu, alleged that El-Rufai was spreading “calculated, malicious lies” aimed at undermining government efforts, inciting public anger, and legitimising criminality.

The accusation followed El-Rufai’s recent television interview, where he claimed that both the federal and Kaduna governments were paying bandits. He also alleged that his successor, Governor Uba Sani, was behind an attack on him and other opposition figures during a political meeting held on Saturday.

Shuaibu dismissed the claims, describing them as a direct threat to peace and development. He accused the former governor of plotting to destabilise Kaduna and return the state to the violence and insecurity that plagued his tenure.

According to the statement, Governor Sani has no reason to disrupt what it called a “gathering of losers,” stressing that the people of Kaduna had recently rejected El-Rufai’s allies in the August 16 bye-elections and endorsed the APC leadership under Sani.

“This Government will not fold its arms and allow a discredited former leader, who left the state in ruins, to ignite chaos and plunge Kaduna back into ethno-religious tension, insecurity, and economic stagnation,” the statement read.

The government further accused El-Rufai of convening an “illegal and chaotic” meeting with his associates on August 30, which allegedly degenerated into violence and gunshots that endangered civilians. Shuaibu said El-Rufai then tried to deflect blame by accusing the government of sponsoring thugs.

“The question is: why would a governor who has just won the confidence of the people in credible elections need to disrupt a gathering of losers? This narrative is both insulting to Kaduna residents and proof of El-Rufai’s determination to drag the state back into chaos,” Shuaibu said.

The Commissioner also referenced the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), which has already dismissed El-Rufai’s allegations, affirming that neither the federal nor state government has ever paid bandits. Instead, he said, both administrations have consistently warned against ransom payments and relied on coordinated military and community engagement strategies.

He contrasted El-Rufai’s time in office — marked by violence, fear, and division — with the current administration’s focus on peace, dialogue, inclusion, and development. Shuaibu cited progress in education, security, and infrastructure, noting that economic activities had resumed in previously troubled zones such as Birnin Gwari, children had returned to school, and Kaduna now ranks 7th nationally in WAEC performance.

“For a former governor to deny these hard-won gains and insult the memory of fallen security officers is beyond shameful,” he added.

Shuaibu concluded by warning that the government would not tolerate any attempts to destabilise the state.

“No individual, no matter how highly placed or once powerful, will be allowed to plunge Kaduna into anarchy. The peace of Kaduna State is non-negotiable,” he declared.
