The Kano police command has taken six individuals into custody in relation to their involvement in incendiary chants targeting Aminu Ado Bayero, the Emir of Kano.

Mr. Hussaini Gumel, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, stated that the suspects disrupted the otherwise peaceful gathering by vocalizing inflammatory slogans against Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the Emir of Kano, who was present at the event.

The alleged chants included the phrase “New governor, new Emir,” inadvertently suggesting a change in leadership was necessary following the shift in government power and appealing to Governor Abba Yusuf to replace Ado Bayero with a new Emir.

As investigations progress, efforts are underway to identify additional suspects and ascertain their backers. Commissioner Gumel emphasized, “The group of individuals were not part of the event’s official guest list. They appeared as uninvited intruders, likely acting under the influence of some individual or a collective entity.”

Gumel further confirmed that technological means were employed to locate and apprehend the six identified persons. Ongoing analysis of video footage is aiding in the identification of all involved parties, and authorities are diligently working to apprehend every individual connected to the incident, including those responsible for its orchestration.

The Commissioner asserted, “Respecting our traditional institutions is of paramount importance. Any individual who disrupts the sanctity of our traditional institutions is, in essence, challenging the authorities of the law enforcement.”
