Baba Haliru, a 70-year-old beggar from Rigiyar Zaki, told NAN that the protests have severely impacted their ability to survive. He explained that many beggars rely on daily earnings to provide for their families, but the protests have hindered their ability to do so.
Haliru said, “For the past four days, my household of 14 has only had water to drink and no food to eat. Please, I urge those behind the protests to negotiate with the government and end this hardship.”
Other beggars echoed Haliru’s plea, urging for the protests to stop and for the curfew to be lifted. Malama Mario Kabiru from Hotoro quarters stated, “We have run out of food and cannot purchase more due to the curfew. We are left with no money and the situation is becoming unbearable.”
Malam Isa Musa from Dorayi quarters also called on the government to implement measures to support elderly individuals who lack assistance. He added, “We are begging because we have no other support. Since the curfew began, my family and I have gone three days without food. We cannot continue like this; please, end the protests.
