Governor Idris stated that the aim of awarding the contract is to enhance the efficiency of the civil service. He highlighted that this project aligns with his commitment to ensuring a conducive work environment for employees.

The governor emphasized that the contractors must adhere to the stipulated 18-month timeline for the project’s completion.

Providing historical context, Safiyanu Garba-Bena, the Kebbi State Head of Service, recounted that the project was initially awarded to Rockwell Nigeria Limited for N3.8 billion in 2021 during the administration of Saidu Usman Dakingari.

Due to fluctuations in commodity prices, the cost was later revised to N7.7 billion in November 2014. By December 2015, the project had reached a 50% completion stage but was subsequently abandoned.

In light of the current administration’s commitment to the welfare of workers, the project was re-awarded to two firms: MTECH Universal Concept Limited and ZBCC Limited.

The initiative is divided into “Lot A and Lot B,” with a combined cost exceeding N10 billion. Both lots are expected to be completed within an 18-month timeframe.

Engr. Manir Jega, the Project Manager of MTECH Universal Concept Limited, expressed gratitude to the governor for recognizing the capability of local contractors to successfully conclude the project in an interview with journalists.
