IGP Warns Officers Against Unauthorised Social Media Use
Meanwhile, the Inspector-General has directed all officers and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force to refrain from unauthorised social media activities capable of undermining the Force’s professionalism, credibility and public image.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okonkon Edem Iniedu.
According to the statement, the warning follows growing concerns over the increasing number of police officers creating and sharing videos, conducting live broadcasts, and engaging in other social media activities while in uniform or in situations that clearly identify them as members of the Nigeria Police Force without official approval.
Disu stressed that although social media remains an important platform for communication and public engagement, serving officers must use it in line with existing laws, regulations, and the Nigeria Police Force Social Media Policy.
He cautioned officers against producing or sharing unauthorised content while in uniform, making public comments on official police matters, revealing sensitive operational information, or using their status as police officers for personal branding, entertainment, or commercial purposes.
