Kill Accord Members’ Remark Sparks Fresh Outcry As Adeyanju Seeks Foreign Sanctions Against Fadahunsi

Adeyanju disclosed that he had petitioned the three countries, asking them to consider visa restrictions and other appropriate measures against the senator over comments he described as potentially capable of fuelling political violence.

Speaking on Arise TV’s Prime Time programme, the lawyer also called on major contenders in the August 15 governorship election to publicly condemn threats, violence and intimidation against political opponents.

Adeyanju expressed concern over what he described as the senator’s alleged threat against Accord Party members.

“Again, that takes me to the unfortunate remarks that we’ve just heard of Senator Fadahunsi, very regrettably threatening that members of the Accord Party be killed,” he alleged.

He argued that, in his interpretation, the senator’s comments went beyond normal political rhetoric and could be viewed as an attempt to incite attacks against members of the opposition party.

According to Adeyanju, his petition to the US, UK and Canadian authorities was intended to draw attention to the controversy and encourage appropriate action where necessary.

He noted that the United States had on several occasions expressed concerns about threats to democratic institutions and political violence in Nigeria.

Fadahunsi has, however, explained that his controversial statement was metaphorical, maintaining that he was urging APC supporters to defeat the Accord Party at the ballot box rather than through physical violence.

Adeyanju Raises Concern Over Osun Election Tension

Adeyanju also expressed concern about the political atmosphere ahead of the Osun governorship election, describing the level of tension and reported violence as worrying.

“For a very long time, we’ve not witnessed this level of violence preceding an election,” he said.

He appealed to political parties, candidates and their supporters to exercise restraint and allow voters to freely determine the outcome of the election.

Lawyer Assesses Town Hall Performances

Adeyanju also assessed the performances of candidates who took part in the Arise Town Hall meeting ahead of the election.

He said he was unimpressed by the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), arguing that the candidate made several broad promises without adequately explaining how they would be achieved.

The lawyer, however, commended the APC candidate for strongly challenging the incumbent administration and raising questions about the management of the state’s resources.

Adeyanju said the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, impressed him the most because he provided what he considered more specific details about projects undertaken by his administration.

He consequently rated the performances 60/40 in favour of Adeleke over the APC candidate.

Adeyanju added that Adeleke also made allegations against the APC over what he described as attempts to interfere with the democratic process, noting that some of the claims had subsequently generated significant discussion on social media.
