Represented by the state’s Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Afolasade Oluwakemi, Abdulrazaq highlighted the state government’s commitment to integrating various support programs for widows into its initiatives. She underscored ongoing efforts to empower widows through both financial aid and material assistance.

The event also featured Gloria Okoduwa, Chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, who drew attention to the challenges widows face under Nigeria’s cultural and social frameworks. Okoduwa lamented discriminatory inheritance practices that often leave widows marginalized.

While acknowledging existing legal protections in Nigeria’s constitution, Okoduwa pointed out significant gaps in implementation. She urged stronger enforcement and increased awareness among widows about their rights to safeguard them from societal prejudices.

In his address, Gbolahan Balogun, leader of the NAS Kwara State branch, called for concerted efforts and practical measures to improve the welfare of widows across the region.

The event saw over 50 widows receive financial support from the Pyrates Confraternity, underscoring ongoing community efforts to alleviate the plight of widows in Kwara State.
