Kwara Police Bring Dismissed Officers To Court Over Polytechnic Student’s DeathThe Kwara State Police Command has announced that three officers—Abiodun Kayode, James Emmanuel, and Oni Philip—dismissed for the killing of Kwara State Polytechnic student Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola, have been charged in court.

In a statement released on October 18 by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, it was confirmed that the officers face charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide related to Ishola’s death. They have been remanded in prison custody as they await further court proceedings.

Ishola, an ND2 student in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, was reportedly shot and killed during a protest against fuel price hikes in the Fate area of Ilorin on September 4, 2024. The incident sparked widespread outrage, prompting the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to transfer the case to the police headquarters in Abuja.
