Presiding over the case, Magistrate Mrs. Kudirat Yahaya convicted the family, including a father, mother, and four children, each to six months in prison or a fine of N125,000 in lieu of imprisonment.

The convicted family members—Mr. Adedokun Paul, his wife, and their five children—faced charges of criminal conspiracy, intimidation, housebreaking, theft, and mischief. The court found them guilty of all charges.

The prosecution’s case, as stated in the complaint, involved accusations against the family for invading Oluwafemi’s home, stealing N1.2 million in cash, a plasma television, an electric kettle, and a rechargeable lamp on June 12, 2024. This invasion was framed as an effort to assist Temitope in moving her belongings amidst a troubled marriage.

During the trial, Oluwafemi testified about previous pressures from local elders and police to settle the matter amicably, despite ongoing assaults from the convicts, which included threats and physical attacks.

In her ruling, Magistrate Yahaya noted that the actions of the family posed a serious threat to societal order. She emphasized that all prosecution witnesses were credible, stating that the evidence was unchallenged and solid.

While sentencing, the magistrate outlined the penalties for the respective charges, concluding with a total fine of N125,000 for each defendant, alongside the six-month prison term for those unable to pay. The sentences will run concurrently.

Additionally, the court acquitted a seventh family member, citing their status as a minor at the time of the incidents.
