On Thursday, Feb. 22, videos surfaced from Malete, Kwara State, depicting students of KWASU engaging in protests, burning tires, and expressing discontent following a raid by NDLEA operatives (refer to here). Just two days prior, EFCC operatives had reportedly apprehended students who owned expensive phones, demanding explanations for their wealth.

In the aftermath of the chaos caused by the NDLEA sting operation, the university’s Management intervened to restore peace. Contrary to circulating reports, the school affirmed that no lives were lost during the incidents.

A statement signed by the school’s Registrar, Dr. Kikelomo W. Sallee, reassured the community: “PEACE RESTORED TO MALETE.”

“Following the unrest that occurred this evening in Malete, the Management of Kwara State University wishes to inform all students and staff of KWASU that peace has been restored to the Malete community. We, therefore, urge all to remain calm and lawful.

“We also wish to state that contrary to reports on social media, no one was shot, and no lives were lost in the unrest.

“Management has been in communication with, and will meet the EFCC and NDLEA regarding the arbitrary sting operations on our student body. Management does not condone the rough handling of bona fide students of our great University, and we urge our dear students to uphold peaceful and orderly conduct for which our Great KWASU is known.
