In a statement released over the weekend and attributed to Chief Innocent Okeke, the National Vice Chairman (Southeast), the LP characterized the deaths of these officers as an injustice, highlighting the fact that they had families who depended on them for their daily livelihoods. It decried the notion that they had to pay the ultimate price in the line of duty.
Okeke expressed deep concern that the killing of security personnel in Imo State was just one of several incidents that have gone underreported and uninvestigated. He emphasized that there have been insufficient measures taken to prevent further occurrences.
He lamented the state’s descent into lawlessness and complete chaos, where individuals live in constant uncertainty about their safety, fearing for their lives every half-hour.
“The state of Imo has tragically become a burial ground, where the population no longer recoils at the sight of blood and death, which now flow and litter the streets on a daily basis,” he said.
“The echoing sounds of firearms, of various calibers, have enveloped the state, creating tensions that pose significant health concerns for both young and old residents.”
