Labour Party Fires Back: Dares Peter Obi To Prove Abure’s Alleged Ties With APC
Julius Abure, the factional National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), has rejected allegations made by Peter Obi, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, who accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of fueling internal crises within the LP.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In an interview aired on Arise Television on Monday, June 9, 2025, Obi claimed that the APC-led Federal Government had infiltrated the Labour Party’s leadership and was deliberately causing unrest within the party.
However, in a swift response issued on Tuesday, the factional National Secretary of the LP, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, countered Obi’s claims, stating that Obi himself, alongside Abia State Governor Alex Otti, were the true sources of the party’s crisis.
The statement accused Obi of consistently misleading Nigerians and challenged him to produce credible evidence of any alliance or collusion between Julius Abure and the APC.
The Abure-led faction criticized the former Anambra State governor for shifting blame instead of accepting responsibility, urging him to acknowledge his leadership failures instead of accusing the Federal Government and harming the party’s reputation.
The statement further emphasized that the Labour Party had refused all alliances with other political parties during the 2023 general elections, choosing instead to stand firmly behind Obi and Otti both before and after the polls.
“The Labour Party leadership took note of an interview granted on Monday by Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, our 2023 presidential candidate, where he alleged that the APC-led government had infiltrated the party’s leadership to stir up internal conflict. However, when asked to provide proof, Mr. Obi offered none. Instead, he claimed that Barrister Julius Abure referred to Governor Alex Otti as a ‘dwarf.’
“As a party, we do not wish to engage in a public spat with Mr. Obi. However, we are compelled to respond due to his repeated attempts to mislead the public regarding the true cause of the internal issues. Most political parties face internal challenges, and Mr. Obi should engage in self-reflection rather than peddling baseless narratives.
“We challenge Obi to present any form of evidence, tangible or otherwise, that links the Abure-led leadership to the APC government.
“No leader is without fault. True leadership means taking responsibility for failures. Mr. Obi failed in providing effective leadership for the Labour Party, and he must own up to his shortcomings,” the statement concluded.
