Lady Finds Unordered Phone In Her Package, Tracks Down Delivery Man To Return It

A Nigerian lady has shared how she discovered that a mobile phone belonging to another customer had been mistakenly delivered alongside her online purchases, before taking steps to return it to the delivery man.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the woman had used her former workplace as her delivery address after placing an order for several items on an online shopping platform. She explained that the delivery man arrived with her packages and spent some time helping her sort through them before leaving.

Later that day, after returning home from work, the woman began unpacking her orders and noticed that all the items she had purchased were present, alongside an additional package she did not recognise.

She reportedly checked her Jumia account to determine whether she had accidentally ordered the item but discovered that no such purchase appeared on her account. Curious about what was inside, she attempted to inspect the package but found it tightly sealed and without a name attached.

According to her account, her sister felt the package and suspected that it contained a mobile phone. The woman then decided to contact the delivery man to inform him about the extra package.

However, her initial attempts were unsuccessful because the delivery man’s phone number was unavailable. She subsequently sent him a message but received no response the following day. Further calls also failed to connect until the third day, when the phone eventually rang but was not answered.

The lady then sent another message informing the delivery man that he had mistakenly left another customer’s phone package with her.

She said the delivery man later made more than 10 missed calls and asked where she was, while also requesting to collect the package the following day. The woman, however, asked him to come immediately, explaining that the package had already remained in her bag for three days.

When the delivery man eventually arrived, he reportedly thanked her and explained that his phone had initially been unreachable because his company had taken disciplinary action over the missing package, including withholding his salary for the month.

The woman said the delivery man appeared relieved after receiving her message and repeatedly thanked and blessed her for returning the package. He reportedly offered her ₦500 as a token of appreciation, but she declined the money.

The lady noted that such mistakes could happen during the delivery process and encouraged people to exercise caution when receiving packages, particularly when they discover items they did not order.

Her decision to return the phone rather than keep an item that was mistakenly delivered to her has since generated reactions, with some people commending her honesty and others discussing what they might have done in a similar situation.
