Lady Sends Rich Uncle ₦20K Airtime, His Unexpected Response Sparks Reactions

A Nigerian lady has recounted how a ₦20,000 airtime gift she sent to her wealthy uncle while she was an undergraduate eventually resulted in a much larger financial gesture from him.

The lady, identified as @esther_stan on X, said she decided to surprise her uncle with the airtime after learning that showing appreciation to wealthy individuals could sometimes lead to unexpected reciprocation.

According to Bush Radio Academy, she revealed that she had about ₦25,000 in her bank account at the time but chose to spend ₦20,000 on airtime for her uncle.

Although her uncle acknowledged and appreciated the gesture, the expected reward did not come immediately. The lady said she waited for weeks and struggled financially during that particular month as she had spent most of the money available to her.

However, during her final year at the university, her uncle contacted her concerning her academic project and subsequently transferred ₦500,000 into her account.

The experience prompted her to share the story on X, where it attracted reactions from users who offered different perspectives about generosity, appreciation and giving to wealthy relatives.

Some users said wealthy individuals may eventually reciprocate acts of kindness, although the response may not always come immediately. Others shared similar experiences of helping people financially or showing gratitude without receiving anything in return.

One user encouraged the idea of appreciating people who had provided meaningful support, while another jokingly suggested trying the approach after experiencing situations where people she had helped did not reciprocate.
