This decision followed an address by Speaker Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, who engaged with the protesting parents at the Assembly’s entrance. The protests arose in response to a substantial fee increase from ₦35,000 to ₦100,000 for the 2024/2025 academic session, which began on September 15, 2024.

During Monday’s plenary, Obasa expressed his commitment to addressing the parents’ concerns and urged them to remain calm as the issue is reviewed. Hon. Sangodara confirmed that discussions with the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders have already begun.

Hon. Shabi Adekola indicated that it was agreed during initial meetings with the ministry that parents would continue paying the original fee of ₦35,000 until further discussions on the hike are finalized. Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu attributed the fee increase largely to rising student feeding costs and called for measures to alleviate the financial strain on parents.

Additionally, Hon. Bonu Solomon raised concerns about students unable to afford the new fees being denied access to food on campus, exacerbating the situation. The Assembly is now awaiting the education committee’s report to determine the next steps.
