Acting on the tip-off, operatives moved in on November 19, 2025, intercepting a truck offloading opioids reportedly meant for distribution ahead of the Christmas season.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, November 26, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi revealed that the agency’s Special Operations Unit had trailed two suspected members of a Drug Trafficking Organisation (DTO)—Egbo Innocent Udalor and Chukwe Emmanuel—before arresting them at Apple Junction with a truck carrying 300 cartons of opioids.
According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended while attempting to transport the drugs into forest routes and community distribution networks before the festive period.
A follow-up operation on November 20, 2025, led officers to the DTO’s warehouse inside the residential compound, where they arrested the alleged cartel leader, Onyekachi Pius Nwanagu, along with associates Nwoye Sunday Ali, Nnacho Ogochukwu, Oraghalia Chukwuebuka Philip, and two additional suspects—bringing the total arrests to six.
Babafemi confirmed that the seized drugs were evacuated in 11 NDLEA exhibit trucks to the agency’s central forensic complex in Lagos.
In total, officers recovered 7,272,000 tramadol 225mg pills, valued at ₦3.96 billion, and 526,200 bottles of codeine syrup (52.6 million mls), worth ₦2.76 billion.
The combined street value of the haul amounts to ₦6.72 billion, with the warehouse reportedly packed to capacity.
“A Victory for the Nigerian People” – Marwa
NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), praised the operatives for the successful bust, calling the operation “a clear and unambiguous statement… a victory for the Nigerian people and proof of our unwavering commitment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
He warned drug cartels nationwide:
“The days when drug barons believed they were untouchable are over. No matter how high or hidden they are, the law will catch up with every merchant of death.”
Terrorism-Related Forensic Evidence Admitted in Court
During interrogations following the arrest of terror-linked negotiator Tukur Mamu in Egypt on September 7, 2022, investigators executed a search warrant on his Kaduna residence.
Items recovered and tendered as exhibits include about $300,000 and seven vehicles, among them a Toyota Camry (Muscle), Peugeot 5008, Mercedes-Benz E350, Lexus SUV, and others.
Marwa disclosed that forensic analysis of Mamu’s Samsung tablet and phones produced conversations—98% in Hausa—transcribed and submitted as evidence by the prosecution team led by David Kaswe.
The court also admitted CDs, CCTV footage, and flash drives containing voice notes in which terror group spokesperson Baba Adamu claimed their leader asked Mamu to help procure public address systems and assist in setting up a website for their operations—requests Mamu reportedly agreed to consider.
Justice Halilu adjourned further proceedings, including adoption of written addresses and forensic updates, to February 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
