Lagos Police Reject Claims Of Activist Arrest Before Democracy Day Protest

Sanyaolu reportedly sent a distress message via WhatsApp on Tuesday night stating, “I have been arrested (by the) police,” after which he became unreachable. However, Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin stated that he had no knowledge of such an incident when contacted for comment.

A police source, speaking anonymously, suggested that the arrest might have been carried out by another law enforcement agency or by police officers from outside the state command, citing the fragmented nature of the police force.

The Take It Back Movement, led by Sanyaolu, plans to hold protests nationwide on Democracy Day, prompting statements from both the Lagos State Police Command and the Department of State Services cautioning against any disruption of public order during the planned demonstrations.

According to notices circulating on social media, the protest in Lagos is scheduled to commence at 7 a.m. on Wednesday.
