In response, Speaker Obasa emphasized that not all local government areas in the State can have a commissioner and directed the Clerk of the House to request the nominees’ local government areas from the Governor.
Governor Sanwo-Olu’s prerogative to nominate individuals to work with him was highlighted by Obasa, with the Assembly’s responsibility being to screen and confirm the nominees if they meet the necessary requirements.
The matter was raised as an ‘Urgent Public Importance’ by Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun, who expressed concern over the lack of representation for Ikorodu despite its contribution to the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last election.
Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Ademola Richard Kasunmu, lamented the absence of any nominee from Ikeja, and Hon. Nureni Akinsanya from Mushin pointed out the lack of local government information in the list and the overlooking of APC technocrats.
The issue was supported by other lawmakers who urged the Governor to reconsider the nominations. Meanwhile, Hon. Femi Saheed, a former secretary of the APC in Lagos, stated that the party had qualified technocrats who could have been nominated.
Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. David Setonji, expressed disappointment at the insufficient representation of Badagry, while Hon. Ladi Ajomale observed that the list seemed biased in terms of religious consideration.
