In adherence to President Bola Tinubu’s directive for the immediate reopening of the land border with Niger Republic, Controller Iheanacho Ojike of the Nigeria Customs Service, Kebbi State command, has officially reopened the Kamba land border.
Ojike emphasized the significance of the Kamba border, stating its pivotal role in revenue generation for Kebbi State. The announcement was made through a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, SP Mohammed Saliu, which was disclosed to the press on Sunday.
The decision to reopen the border aims to facilitate legitimate trade activities that contribute positively to national development. However, Ojike reiterated that this does not entail permission for the importation of prohibited goods, which could jeopardize the economy and national security.
He assured stakeholders that the Customs personnel are fully committed to facilitating lawful trade activities within the bounds of the law. Ojike stressed the importance of adhering to Customs regulations, including proper declaration and payment of appropriate duties to the government treasury.
Additionally, Ojike emphasized that the exportation of food grains out of the country remains prohibited due to the prevailing scarcity of food within Nigeria.
In response, Mallam Fana, the district community head, expressed gratitude towards the Federal Government for its efforts. He highlighted the renewed sense of optimism among his people engaged in cross-border businesses, following the reopening of the border.
