Festus Osifo, the President of the Trade Union Congress, stated in an interview with Channels Television on Wednesday that neither NLC nor TUC had been officially notified about any court order restricting their right to strike.
Despite reports of a court judgment emerging last week prohibiting the unions from going on strike, Osifo maintained that there had been no communication or notice to that effect.
This reaction follows the commencement of the nationwide indefinite strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress on Tuesday, in protest of the assault on Joe Ajaero, the NLC National President, in Imo State.
Additionally, various affiliate unions, including the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), National Union of Electricity Employees, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN).
National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees (NUBIFIE), and others, have expressed their support by joining the strike action.
