The Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development’s endorsement, dated October 9, 2024, was formally announced by Kogi State’s Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, who highlighted the airport’s benefits for the state and surrounding areas. Fanwo emphasized the strategic benefits of building an airport in Kogi State, noting that the airport would ease traffic on the busy Lokoja-Abuja road and help reduce congestion at Abuja’s international airport. He said, “The Ododo Administration has considered it a top priority for Kogi State to have an International Airport and join the league of the aviation hub.” Fanwo further explained that the project is expected to stimulate the state’s economy, generate jobs, and enhance Kogi’s standing on the global stage.

Despite these assurances, many social media users have questioned the true motivation behind the airport project. Some expressed skepticism about the feasibility and financial accountability of the construction, voicing concerns that the airport could become an unfinished project or drain resources. Responding to this, Fanwo stated that the government is committed to adhering to industry standards, ensuring quality, and focusing on cargo capabilities to support the state’s economic goals.
