The footage circulating on social media depicted the lecturer at the state-owned university in Kano subjecting students to flog jumps within a lecture hall, sparking widespread criticism and condemnation.
In a statement released on February 6, 2024, and signed by Sai’du Abdullahi Nayaya, the Deputy Registrar of the Information and Public Relations Unit, the university informed the public that the matter has been referred to the Disciplinary Committee for a thorough investigation.
“The Management of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, takes note of a viral video on social media depicting physical assault/corporal punishment imposed on some students by an academic staff in a lecture hall, as reported by certain media outlets,” the statement said.
Consequently, the university management swiftly issued a query to the implicated staff and promptly suspended them. The case has been escalated to the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee for further necessary actions.”These measures were taken promptly to address the situation and ensure justice,” the statement concluded.
