Legal Action Taken Against Individual For Monkey Killing Incident In Awka

On Wednesday, March 6, local residents of Awka apprehended a man for the alleged killing of a monkey, an act considered taboo in the community where monkeys are revered as sacred beings.

The arrested individual, featured in a widely circulated video, confessed to residing in Awka for 24 years and acknowledged the cultural prohibition against harming or consuming monkeys. He claimed that the incident was unintentional, asserting that he had set a trap in the bush with the aim of catching other types of bush meat. Unfortunately, the trap ensnared a monkey instead.
