A group of legal representatives has launched legal action against the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Olanipekun Olukoyede. They have appealed to international organizations such as the United Nations, United States, United Kingdom, and European Union to investigate allegations of the EFCC chairman’s defiance of court orders and violation of constitutional rights.
During a press conference in Abuja, the lawyers accused Olukoyede of openly disregarding legitimate court orders and infringing on the constitutional rights of Nigerians.
Emmanuel Agada, speaking on behalf of the coalition, stated that they have taken steps to request a visa ban on Olukoyede if he continues to infringe on citizens’ rights, citing the case of former Governor Yahaya Bello as an example.
Agada added that the legal team is also considering measures to halt international funding and assistance to the EFCC if Olukoyede persists in his actions.
The statement issued by the group emphasized the importance of upholding justice and protecting the judiciary from political interference. They called on Nigerians to take decisive actions to safeguard the country’s institutions and prevent corruption from undermining their integrity.
The lawyers stressed their commitment to promoting a judiciary that operates independently and dispenses justice without bias or favoritism. They urged international bodies to intervene to uphold human rights and strengthen Nigeria’s institutions.
The coalition emphasized the need for decisive action to protect the rule of law and ensure accountability within Nigeria’s institutions. They reiterated their dedication to advocating for a judiciary free from political influence and committed to upholding the rights of all citizens.
