The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano state, Hon. Abdullahi Abbas, has issued a legal threat against the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Isa Dederi…CONTINUE READING

This comes in response to Dederi’s accusation that APC leaders influenced the Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal and the Justices of the Court of Appeal to remove the state Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
In a letter dated November 23 addressed to Dederi, Abbas demanded a withdrawal of the defamatory statements within 48 hours or face legal action before the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC).
Abbas highlighted that Dederi falsely alleged on national television that the Tribunal’s decision to deliver judgment via Zoom was due to interference.
Abbas pointed out that Dederi further tarnished the reputation of the appellate court justices by suggesting, “According to information available to us, there was interference by forces that be.
” He emphasized that Dederi insinuated influence on the judges by APC leaders, which he asserted was far from the truth.
The APC chairman highlighted the repercussions of Dederi’s statements, noting the personal and professional impact, including receiving threats and attempts to attack his residence.
The letter copied the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the Kano state chairman of the association.
