The Labour Party strongly condemns the intrusion into its party headquarters by the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), headed by Joe Ajaero.

Abayomi Arabambi, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, has called for Ajaero’s apprehension on charges of “treason,” alleging his involvement in orchestrating a political upheaval against the Federal Government. Ajaero’s purported call for students, market women, leaders, thugs, and other troublemakers to invade Labour Party offices across the 36 states is deemed as a potential trigger for lawlessness.

The NLC, in a directive issued on Tuesday, instructed its members to mobilize and besiege Labour Party secretariats nationwide in protest of the party’s forthcoming national convention scheduled for March 27. The directive, co-signed by Titus Amba and Chris Uyot, Chairman and Secretary of the NLC Political Commission respectively, also demanded the immediate resignation or dismissal of Labour Party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, over alleged financial mismanagement and disrespect towards NLC President, Joe Ajaero.

In response, a group of protesting NLC members attempted to storm the LP national headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, chanting solidarity slogans and demanding action against the party leadership. However, security personnel deployed to the area prevented their access to the party secretariat.

Addressing a press briefing in Abeokuta, Ogun State, LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Arabambi, reiterated the call for Ajaero’s arrest. He denounced the NLC’s actions as unlawful, outdated, and incompatible with democratic principles.

“We are prepared to defend our party leadership against any illegal attempt to seize control, as we stand firm against any breach of the rule of law,” Arabambi stated emphatically. “We reject the intrusion of NLC political agitators into our party headquarters and assert that nobody holds a monopoly on violence.”
