In a statement issued in Awka, Nwosu criticized the upcoming local government election, scheduled for September 28, 2024, as being poorly executed and suspicious. He argued that the amendments to the law, made hastily and without proper legal diligence, appear to serve a predetermined agenda.

Nwosu claimed, “The amendments seem designed to ensure that all chairmanship and councillorship positions are secured for the incumbent Governor of Anambra State, regardless of the democratic process. This undermines the principles of democracy and is driven by biased legal advice, which wrongly assumes that local government election disputes are confined to the state High Court system, heavily influenced by the governor.”

He expressed concern that the governor might attempt to manipulate the Anambra State judiciary to legitimize what he views as an illegitimate electoral process. Nwosu emphasized that the people of Anambra, eager to engage in local governance, are being sidelined by this flawed process.

“The John Nwosu Campaign Organization completely rejects this authoritarian approach to the local government elections scheduled for September 28, 2024,” he declared. “We cannot criticize the 2023 general elections for their lack of democratic standards and then ignore the potential for an even worse outcome in Anambra’s local government elections due to the current planning’s disregard for fairness and justice.”
