Labour Party’s Lagos State spokesperson, Ife Salako, has strongly criticized Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka for his recent admonition directed at the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election, Peter Obi, advising him against contesting for the presidency in 2027. The renowned literary figure also accused the former Anambra State Governor of deceitfulness and distorting their conversation following their initial meeting amidst the controversy. Soyinka further expressed his hope that, for the nation’s sake, Peter Obi refrains from vying for the presidency in 2027.

In response, Salako released a video on his social media handle, rebuking Soyinka’s actions and suggesting that, at his age, he should be resolving issues rather than exacerbating them. The LP official also alleged that the political figure Soyinka supports harbors individuals involved in criminal activities such as murder, drug trafficking, and thuggery.

Salako went on to criticize Soyinka for allegedly instigating cultism in the country, which he claims still persists and has evolved into a more severe problem. He questioned Soyinka’s relevance in contemporary Nigeria, asserting that at 89 years old, he lacks a future in the country. Additionally, Salako accused Soyinka of resorting to violence in his youth when faced with opposition.

The spokesperson emphasized the need to focus on improving the country’s situation, citing the closure of businesses and increasing poverty under the current administration as pressing issues deserving attention
