The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reported the arrest of Kayode Cole on Monday, March 18, 2024, for allegedly issuing a death threat against their executive chairman, Ola Olukoyede.

According to a statement by EFCC Spokesperson Dele Oyewale on Wednesday, the arrest took place in the Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Oyewale explained that Cole made the threatening remarks through his Instagram handle, “1billionsecretss,” while commenting on a post by popular Instagram blogger Instablog9ja on February 1, 2024.

Instablog9ja had shared a story titled “A Religious Sect Is Laundering Money for Terrorists. We Traced N7 Billion Fraud Proceeds to another Religious Group – EFCC Chairman.”

In his comment on Instablog9ja’s post, Cole allegedly stated that the EFCC chairman would die within six months.

During interrogation, the suspect claimed that he was seeking attention.

Cole will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution.

The statement also referenced remarks made by EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede on Wednesday, January 30, 2024, during a one-day dialogue on “Youth, Religion, and the Fight against Corruption” at the Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja. Olukoyede had revealed the Commission’s findings regarding a religious sect in Nigeria involved in money laundering for terrorists.
