Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, on Monday paid a condolence visit to the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, following the tragic killing of travelers in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The incident, which occurred on Thursday, involved a mob intercepting and violently attacking innocent travelers from Kano who were heading for Sallah celebrations. The victims, who were hunters, were killed after their vehicle was searched.

During the visit to Senator Jibrin’s residence in Maitama, Abuja, Governor Okpebholo expressed his heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Edo State government, condemning the brutal act and pledging support to the victims’ families.

He revealed that 14 suspects had been apprehended in connection with the incident and were being moved to Abuja for further investigation. Governor Okpebholo assured that those responsible would be held accountable, emphasizing that the state government was committed to ensuring justice.

“It’s truly unfortunate that this happened in our state. We are here to express our deep regret and to inform you that the president is taking decisive action. The Inspector General of Police is involved, and the Deputy Inspector General of Criminal Investigation Department is overseeing the case. Fourteen suspects have been arrested and are being transported to Abuja for questioning,” the governor stated.

Governor Okpebholo also mentioned the formation of a committee to support the affected families, ensuring they receive necessary assistance during this challenging period.

In response, Senator Barau Jibrin thanked the governor for his support and stressed the importance of bringing the perpetrators to justice. He described the killings as “barbaric” and called for swift and decisive actions to serve as a deterrent.

“We can’t reverse what has happened, but Nigerians are keen to see that the culprits are apprehended and justice is served. You are on the right path in this regard,” Senator Jibrin remarked.
