Mass Exodus Looms: Five Governors Plot Exit From PDP Amid Intensifying Crisis

According to The Sun, the group includes two second-term governors and three others serving their first terms in office.

Following the 2023 general elections, the PDP maintained control in 13 states such as Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Enugu, Osun, and Oyo. Others included Bauchi, Adamawa, Taraba, Zamfara, and Plateau. However, Edo State later slipped into the hands of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after an off-cycle governorship election.

In a recent blow to the party, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno defected to the APC, taking along several lawmakers and influential party members, leaving the PDP with control of just 10 states.

Sources say the APC is now ramping up efforts to persuade five more PDP governors to switch sides ahead of the 2027 general elections.

A member of the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) disclosed that the APC’s strategy, driven by President Bola Tinubu, is to secure dominance in the South, a move designed to boost Tinubu’s chances for re-election.
