Kolomi’s resignation was conveyed in a letter dated April 1, 2025, addressed to the Chairman of the Ngurbuwa Ward of the PDP in Gujba Local Government Area.

In his letter, Kolomi expressed his appreciation to the party leadership for the opportunity to be a member and for allowing him to contest in the 2023 Yobe East senatorial election.

“It has been a privilege to contribute significantly to the advancement of democracy, particularly through grassroots political engagement, fostering collaboration, and forming diverse partnerships under the PDP’s banner,” Kolomi stated.

In a related development, Martin Onovo, the former presidential candidate of the defunct National Conscience Party (NCP) in the 2015 general election, has emphasized the importance of opposition unity and the emergence of a strong candidate as key to defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential elections.

During an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Tuesday, Onovo reacted to the recent announcement of an opposition coalition aimed at challenging the APC in the upcoming presidential race.

Onovo stressed that the coalition must unite behind a dynamic and capable candidate with a well-defined agenda.

“The coalition of opposition leaders needs a vigorous and strong candidate to enhance its chances in 2027. A candidate with a clear agenda and vision is essential,” he asserted.

Highlighting the significance of integrity, Onovo pointed out that while perfection is unattainable, a solid reputation remains vital for a candidate’s credibility.

“The opposition needs a candidate with a proven track record of integrity. Perfection is unrealistic, but integrity is non-negotiable,” he said.

Onovo also critiqued the idea of fielding older figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, advocating for younger, more energetic candidates to take the lead.

“It’s time for the opposition to harness the vigor of the youth rather than relying on older leaders,” Onovo remarked.

He further advocated for a candidate who possesses moral, mental, and physical fitness, equipped with a clear, patriotic vision for moving the nation forward.

Expressing confidence in the coalition’s prospects, Onovo urged members to collaborate effectively to secure a decisive victory in 2027.
