During the gathering, Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his invitation and continued respect for the legislative arm. He emphasized the significance of Ramadan as a period of reflection, urging Nigerians to evaluate their progress and aspirations.

“Ramadan is a time for reflection—where were you before, where are you now, and where do you want to be? More than ever, Nigeria needs this kind of introspection,” Abbas remarked.

He also called on both Christians and Muslims to use this period to pray for the nation, highlighting the notable achievements made under President Tinubu’s leadership in just two years. Abbas stressed the importance of seeking divine guidance for the country’s economy, security, and overall governance.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, in his address, underscored the need for national unity and progress, urging National Assembly members to prioritize Nigeria’s development over political divisions.

In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima encouraged lawmakers to approach their responsibilities with humility and a commitment to collective growth.

“This sacred month reminds us to choose stability over strife, collaboration over conflict, and dialogue over discord. In the end, history will judge us not by personal battles but by the bridges we build together,” Shettima stated.

Reflecting on the significance of both Ramadan and the Lenten season, Shettima called for deep introspection and commitment to national unity.

“What binds us as a nation is far greater than what divides us,” he said.

He commended President Tinubu for his inclusive leadership and reassured Nigerians that the administration’s economic policies were beginning to yield positive results.

“Our economy has turned the corner, and we are now on the path to sustainable growth. With perseverance, we will build a Nigeria where every citizen can thrive,” Shettima affirmed.

He also praised Speaker Abbas and the House of Representatives for maintaining harmony within the legislature, emphasizing that peace and development go hand in hand.

“There can be no development without peace, and there can be no peace without development. The unity within the House reflects our shared commitment to Nigeria’s progress,” he added.

Concluding his speech, Shettima urged the leadership to govern with empathy, fairness, and justice, reminding them that leadership is a sacred trust given by the people.

“Leadership is not about personal gain; it is about service. It is a responsibility entrusted to us by God, tested by history, and measured by the impact we leave behind,” Shettima said.
