Speaking during an appearance on Prime Time on Arise TV, the former PDP governorship candidate in Ogun State stated that while he has remained loyal to the PDP for 28 years, he would not hesitate to switch allegiance if he believes it is the right decision.
“If I decide to support Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, I will leave PDP and join his party — that’s a possibility in the future,” Sowunmi declared.
“I’ve been in PDP for 28 years. Some people haven’t lasted 28 days. If I decide to leave, I will do so openly and confidently.”
Sowunmi, who was a spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign, criticized the PDP’s failure to reform, despite his persistent calls for change.
“Why would anyone remain in a party that refuses to fix itself, even after you’ve shouted for reform?” he asked.
Pressed again on the possibility of leaving the party, Sowunmi affirmed that, considering the political realities in his state and among his people, there is a very strong chance he may part ways with the PDP.
“Given the situation in my environment, my state, my tribe, and what my people desire, the possibility is very, very strong,” he concluded.
