In a Democracy Day message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, Governor Bago noted that while democratic rule has persisted since 1999, the expected level of national progress remains elusive.

“It is troubling that despite having sustained democratic rule since 1999, Nigeria is still far from where it ought to be. More work is required,” Bago remarked.

He emphasized the urgent need for electoral reforms and broader civic engagement to build inclusive governance structures and robust democratic institutions—ones that protect the vulnerable, uphold justice, and guarantee equal opportunity for all citizens.

Bago urged Nigerians to use the occasion to critically assess the nation’s democratic journey, recommit to democratic values, and honor the sacrifices of those who fought for freedom and representation.

“Democracy represents the triumph of the people’s collective will over tyranny. It is a reminder of the sacrifices, resilience, and vision of our national heroes and heroines,” he said.

He acknowledged that democracy has fostered greater transparency and accountability in governance, promoted diverse political voices, and expanded citizen participation in public affairs.

“I call on everyone to pray for leaders at all levels so they can provide purposeful leadership. I remain fully committed to the New Niger project—together, we will make it a reality,” he declared.
